Scared of the Dark by Donovan Quintanilla (5th Grader)

One night a little boy named Thomas was awake while his parents and grandfather were sleeping. Thomas was watching television by himself in the living room. When the movie was done, he heard a strange noise outside.  He went to wake parents. His father, Mr. Brown, went to check outside. When his dad had finished looking around the house and came back inside, Thomas’ dad said, “You watch too much television, you should stop watching television so late.” Thomas finally went to bed. Then, all of a sudden, Mr. Brown screamed.

Thomas’ mom woke up and ran out the bedroom to check on her husband, but it was too late. She saw her husband dead. Thomas got up ran toward his mom’s weeping voice. He was so scared when he saw his father dead. When Thomas’ grandfather heard the crying he woke up and called the police. When the police arrived they began searching for the bad guy but the killer had already escaped the scene. So all Thomas could do was pray that the police would catch the bad guy.

The next day the wake was held inside the home. Thomas and his mother were crying as relatives and friends comforted them. Then they heard a knock on the door. Thomas opened the door to two police officers. The officers entered and walked over to Thomas’ mom and told her that they had caught the killer. They explained that they were sure they had the right person because he not only admitted to the crime but handed over the murder weapon. Thomas hugged his mom and was no longer afraid. Thomas promised to never forget his brave dad.
