There is too much violence in my district. I am tired of men killing young girls like me. I get mad when I hear that girls are kidnapped on their way home. How can girls just disappear? Then parents get worried when night comes and their daughters haven’t come home.
Parents would then go and report that their child is missing. Then our police would start their investigation. They usually spend a lot of days looking for girls. The police will eventually find a dead body of a young girl. Then they’ll inform parents about their discovery.
After hearing the bad news, the parents will start crying with broken hearts. They raised their child from the day she was born and now she’s gone. Someone please stop the crime in San Ignacio. Please help young girls like me.

Break the Silence by Ramon Medina (7th Grader)
Don’t be afraid
Don’t be afraid to talk
Don’t be afraid to walk
Break the silence
Don’t be part of the problem
Be a part of the solution
There’s a place for all the criminals
And I don’t want you to go there
So turn your life around
Don’t you remember,
Seeing life through our eyes?
Weren’t you afraid?
Make a change and serve your time.
Don’t be afraid to talk
Don’t be afraid to walk
Break the silence
Don’t be part of the problem
Be a part of the solution
There’s a place for all the criminals
And I don’t want you to go there
So turn your life around
Don’t you remember,
Seeing life through our eyes?
Weren’t you afraid?
Make a change and serve your time.

Crimes Are Happening in Belize by Catherine Guerra (7th Grader)
Belize is our land,
We should be glad to be Belizean,
Many crimes are happening...
When they should be stopping.
A lot of people are dying
because of bad minds.
When we don't pay enough
attention to criminals,
They get away to rape again,
And we don't bother...
Fathers raping their daughters.
Now we shouldn't be here,
No, we won't have fear,
We should be heard clear,
Don't let them get away,
Lock them up in jail; in there-
Let them stay.

Stop the Violence by Unconfirmed (6th Grader)
Stop the violence
in Belize,
We want to live a life
of peace please,
As a child-
I don’t think this is the way
things should be,
We are yet kids;
We have a right to live,
But some who are smart
have used their intelligence wrongly,
Tricking kids
and making everyone sorry,
Some adults
just ignore their child’s wrongs,
Keeping secret
their child’s crimes,
Not reporting them in on time,
Preferring that they continue
crossing the line.
Crime is continuing to happen
Crime is killing our future,
Did you know?
Criminals use guns and knifes
to damage our lives.
So stop the violence and crime,
Our lives are worth the time.

Violence by Gabrielle Matus (5th Grader)
Violence is killing people
and it needs to be stopped,
But it won’t
be stopped on its own,
We need to take a stand
at school and at home,
We need to help-
stop the crime
by speaking against the violence
in our time,
Women and children
are being raped
but no one seems to care,
People who need to be in jail
are not there…
So let’s get up
and help to break the silence,
and finally put in jail-
The people guilty of violence.

Violence in the Streets by Amy Pelayo (7th Grader)
Stop the killing-
if you are willing.
let there be
a new generation…
for our nation,
We are people…
not animals,
So care for everyone
both big and small.
Stop the murder- I say
because some day…
you won’t go any further.
And if you do murder someone,
You should go to jail
and never get bail
until God’s kingdom come.
if you are willing.

The Crime in the City by Nelianne Rancharan (6th Grader)
The crime...
in the city...
is really bad,
but no one knows
or can remember
how it all started,
Belize use to be
a peaceful haven,
Were the children use to play
with nothing bad happening,
Parents use to say,
“Go and buy something to cook.”
The children use to come back
safe and sound,
But now in Belize
some children...
can’t be found,
If you live in Belize
and you buy at the store,
Please do not go by yourself,
I am giving you advice-
if you want to be safe,
Please be with someone older
who could look over your shoulder.

Crime by Nicole Rochester (7th Grader)
Crime is painful,
Crime is sad,
Lots of people are committing crimes,
When seeking the truth
is the only way,
You are breaking up families-
everyday,
Our friends, mothers, sisters,
and brothers know-
Losing a loved one
isn’t any fun
Families are crying,
They want justice, peace, respect, and hope
So put away the gun
and help us in this fight,
You can make a change,
Do what’s right.

Our People Are Dying by Beyonce Villafranco (6th Grader)
Murder every day
and everywhere,
Killing everyday
and what should we say,
This is our children dying,
And we are crying,
It time to make a change,
and to take a stand.
Someday it could be your brother,
or even your mother.
It may not to be today,
but it could be tomorrow,
I want to be free,
I want to be me,
I want to live without fear
in my community,
Going outside
shouldn’t make me worry,
I don’t now who to trust,
Because……
I am afraid they’ll leave me in dust,
So let’s get together
and make a future,
For our mothers, fathers,
sisters and brothers
and even our enemies.
Come together, forever
and let’s love eternally.

Cayo by Karran Bradley (7th Grader)
The problems in Cayo are so sad
Sometimes it makes me feel
as if I’m going mad
I think we should stop the killing
Stop the gangs,
We should hit them in the head
with a frying pan,
It’s not fair,
It’s not right,
So many people are filled with fright,
Things are rough,
Things are sad ,
So many things are going bad,
We should help the needy,
Help the sick,
We should make a change
and make it quick,
All the people who are killing
should be sent to jail,
No matter how much they scream and wail,
I will be heard,
And that day is today,
I will take a stand
no matter what they say!
Sometimes it makes me feel
as if I’m going mad
I think we should stop the killing
Stop the gangs,

It’s getting in my head,
Please don’t get me mad,
A family member dies,
All of us cry
and ask ourselves why,
Bert Vasquez rapes the girl,
He should be sent to jail
or taken out of this world,
It’s so sad to see the girl past away,
especially for her parents to see her
lying in that grave,
Criminals please don’t take our lives away
On this earth we were meant to stay.

WHY US? by Andrea Gutierez (7th Grader)
When people hurt others
it feels as if they’re hurting me,
Why would you kill someone
who could potentially be
a leader or teacher or one who will feed
us all of our needs,
In this country of rapists and murderers
all of us must stick together,
All of us must fight,
All of us must not sit down and talk
or just go for a walk,
It would be nice
If we could go and buy rice
and come back home that night,
Let us run free,
Run without worry,
Why would you want to harm me,
My life has just begun
I may help someone you love
in the long run,
No I won’t sit here,
I won’t live in fear,
I WILL BE HEARD
EVEN IF I DIE WHILE I TRY!

If You Close Your Eyes by Ana Segura (7th Grader)
I'm on this earth for a reason,
Maybe I'll grow up to be a leader
changing people's lives
But how would you know
you don't bother to give us a chance
to live fully
I know that you've sinned
and I know that you've cried
You can change your life
If you close your eyes
and confess all your sins inside
and let us live our lives
Let us live up
to what we're to become.
Maybe I'll grow up to be a leader
changing people's lives
But how would you know
you don't bother to give us a chance
to live fully
I know that you've sinned
and I know that you've cried
You can change your life
If you close your eyes
and confess all your sins inside
and let us live our lives
Let us live up

The Creature by Michelle Guerra (7th Grader)
One late Halloween night, Giby was studying some witch crafting at the community library. He wanted to summon a witch, but he had done something wrong. Instead of making a witch he made a monster. He had three tiny red eyes, no mouth, and had a long sharp sword for a hand. He looked like he wonted to kill someone. Freddie walked in the room to find his Uncle Giby. He wasn’t aware that his uncle was studying witchcraft. The monster took one look at Freddie and Freddie screamed like a little girl. The monster ran towards him as if he was food. All of a sudden the monster grabbed him and they both disappeared.
Giby was so frightened. “I think… I… I… summoned that creature from… another dimension,” thought Giby. He couldn’t just stand there and do nothing; he had to bring Freddie back. He did exactly everything he did before to summon that creature. It came back with Freddie; he was unharmed and looked exactly the same. Giby realized that he was the monster’s master, so he sent the creature back to its dimension.
Monster in My Room by Oris Cruz (6th Grader)
Late one Halloween night, after trick or treating, Jerry saw a movie named ‘Monster in the Forest’. When it was time for Jerry to sleep, he couldn’t because of the scary movie he had watched. Jerry couldn't stop his knees from shaking. Whoosh went the wind against the window next to Jerry's head. He quickly grabbed his sheet and covered himself from head to toe. Jerry peeped with one eye and saw the shadow of a tree on his bedroom wall and screamed.
Suddenly, Jerry heard a knock, knock at his bedroom door. Jerry screamed. Then door opened slowly and he saw a tail whip back and forth. He quickly covered himself, again. Then he felt little feet walking up his legs. Jerry was trembling. Finally, he mustered up the courage to look. When he peeped, he saw that it was just Ginger. Jerry hugged Ginger and covered him too. Jerry was talking to Ginger but Ginger just meowed.
Jerry heard the door opening again. This time it was Jerry's mom. His mom asked him why he was screaming. Jerry told his mom the reason. Then Jerry's mom told Jerry that there were no such things as ghosts. Jerry thanked his mom and wasn’t afraid any longer. Jerry went to sleep happily without fear.

The Dream by Lourdes Hales (7th Grader)
A long time ago there was a little boy named Nathan who was a big scaredy-cat! One night his parents had to stay at work very late. When his nanny told him it was time for bed, he went to his bed and got under his covers. Suddenly, he heard a crash outside his window. When he looked out, he saw a shadow-like figure floating in mid air. He backed up onto his bed with tears in his eyes and a frightened look on his face.
Then, unable to hold in how he felt, Nathan let out a loud scream. His nanny ran up the stairway as fast as she could. “What is the matter,” she asked. “I think I saw a shadow move,” he replied with a scared voice. “It’s probably just a figment of your imagination,” she said, trying to calm him down. “Just try to go back to bed now,” “Okay,” he replied in a soft, yet scared voice.
A few minutes later, he tried to go to sleep but he couldn’t because he wanted to wait for his parents to come home. After waiting for 4 hours his parents finally came, but when he ran downstairs to hug them, he noticed it was the boogie man and his wife. Nathan did not know what to do except scream and run. He pushed through them and ran off into the deep dark woods. After running for approximately an hour, he stopped and looked around, but all he saw was darkness.
Nathan did not know what to do. So he sat down on a cold damp rock to think and cry. “All I want is my family, my warm bed and a hot cup of cocoa.” Finally Nathan decided to see if he could find his way out of the dark, scary woods. When he rose to his feet, he felt something drag him down. When he looked back he noticed it was just a root sticking out of the ground from a nearby tree. He got up and was only able to take a couple steps before he heard the words he had been waiting to hear. It was the sound of his parents calling out his name. “Nathan, Nathan,” they yelled. Nathan ran to his mom and dad who had open arms, ready to hug their son.
After that happy family reunion moment, they decided to start walking home and on the way, Nathan told his parents everything that had happened to him that night. Suddenly Nathan felt a splash of freezing cold water on his face. “What was that for?” Nathan asked. Then, before he could say anything else, he woke up and realized it was all a dream. Thank goodness Nathan thought to himself. During breakfast he told his parent’s everything that happened in his dream that night.
Then, unable to hold in how he felt, Nathan let out a loud scream. Scared Boy by Gabrielle Matus (5th Grader)
In the small town of Santa Elena in the Cayo District of Belize, ten year old Tom and his mom lived in an old wooden house. The boy loved to harass his mom because he was frightened to sleep alone. Tom was afraid monsters would get him. One night while Tom was lying in his bed, he heard a sudden shriek and he cried, “Mom, are you okay?” But there was no answer and everything was silent. He went down the stairs and he saw a monster attacking his mom. Tom asked his mom, “What can I do? His mom told him to stay back or else the monster would attack him as well. Tom could just stand by and watch his mom get hurt, so he got a broom and started to beat the monster.
The monster turned around and tried to kill Tom but he ran into his room and locked the door. Then Tom heard his mom screaming again. He cried, “Mom, are you okay?” Tom left the safety of his room and ran back down the stairs to where his mom was on the floor, bleeding. Tom knew the monster was still somewhere in the house. So he called the neighborhood woodsman who, in no time, came over with an axe. After a short hunt for the monster, he killed it. Then they took Tom’s mom to the hospital.
The doctor said she would survive but would have some brain damage. Eight weeks later, Tom’s mom returned home. She has some disabilities like writing and eating by herself but if she can survive a monster, she could survive anything.
The doctor said she would survive but would have some brain damage. Eight weeks later, Tom’s mom returned home. She has some disabilities like writing and eating by herself but if she can survive a monster, she could survive anything.

Scary Dream by Steven Liang (7th Grader)
There was a little boy named John who was always scared of the dark. So he never came out of his house at night. When he was inside his house, John made sure to turn on all the lights. He, also, turned up his favorite music very loud. But his mom didn’t like the way he was acting. Then one day John’s mom had enough and she yelled, “John get out!” John’s mom turned off all the lights in the house and left John to run around and scream in the dark. Then John’s mom pushed him out of the front door of the house.
John was walking through the dark and cold night, looking for a safe place to rest. He started to get scared. Suddenly he felt a hand grab the back of his shirt. Poor little John started screaming and ran back toward his house. At the same time, John’s father was walking home from work when he saw his son screaming and running through the dark.
John’s father caught up to him and took him back to the house. During dinner time, John’s father asked him to explain the reason he was screaming and running in the street. John said, “I was scared because of dark and I felt someone grab the back of my shirt.”
When he finished eating dinner, he started to watch TV, but all the channels were showing scary movies. John turned off the TV and ran to his room where he felt chills run down his back. He was so scared that his whole face turned white like a paper.
As soon as John went to bed, he began to sleep. In his dream, he was very scared because a monster wanted to eat him.
"Ahh!" John woke up screaming until he noticed his room was dark. Suddenly, he realized that there was nothing to be afraid of, so he stopped screaming. John sat in his bed until morning. When he went to school that day he thought that the night before was just a scary dream.

The Ghost by Aidan Brooks (7th Grader)
One day a boy named Steven decided to play with his best friend Justin. He went to look for Justin at his house, but he was not there. So he asked Justin’s mom, and she replied, “Justin is dead!” “What,” Steven cried. Then he went home and told his mom the sad news. Night was setting in and Justin went to bed. At around twelve o’ clock, Steven heard a tapping sound. Steven wondered what it was. He went downstairs to see what it was but saw nothing but his shadow.
So the next day Steven went to school, he told everyone about the sound he heard, but no one listened to him. When school ended, Steven went home by himself, this time without his best friend. When he was going home, he heard a voice that said. “I am going to haunt you!” Steven was very scared, so he ran the rest of the way home. When he reached, he tried to get his mind off of the voice by doing all his home work. When it was time for Steven to sleep, he got into bed and closed his eyes. Though Steven was scared that the sound would come back, he still fell asleep.
While Steven dreamed, he heard the voice again. He woke up and yelled, “Mom!” But his mom was fast asleep. So Steven was on his own. Then the ghost said, “I will haunt you.” Steven, in that moment, realized that the ghost was Justin, wearing a ghost suit. Steven figured out that he was being pranked by Justin and his mom.
The next day Steven and Justin went walking to school, talking along the way about everything that had happened.

My Scary Dream by Aaliyah Avilez (7th Grader)
One sunny day at school, Dean was listening to our teacher Miss Emily. Then he heard a weird noise and I felt a strong breeze but thought nothing of it. When the school day ended he headed straight home. As soon as Dean arrived home, he took a shower and then lay down to take a nap.
As soon as Dean closed his eyes, a big bulldog was chasing him into the woods and a bunch of ghosts appeared in front of him. He screamed, “AAAHHH!!!”
Suddenly, Dean woke up and saw his little sister playing in my room. He got really mad and told her to get out. She ran out giggling. Dean got up and went into the kitchen for a drink of water. While drinking, he heard the weird noise he had heard earlier in class. He felt really scared but he couldn’t resist falling asleep, so he went back to bed. When he woke up, it was already morning. He was so happy and relieved. However, every night Dean is scared that he'll hear that weird noise.

Scared to Doom by Elisha Martinez (6th Grader)
There was a boy named Kalone who use to be very mean. He was the biggest bully at school, but at home he was the biggest baby. However, if anyone found out that he was the biggest baby at home, he would surely die from embarrassment. Everyone would then make fun of him. Well, let me tell you his story.
Twenty years ago, all the kids in town dressed up to go trick or treating for Halloween. It was going to be a good night for Kalone because he was going to take all the little children’s sweets away. That night, however, didn’t go as plan. Kalone was dressed as a zombie and he scared every boy and girl he met. Then he decided to go to the scariest house in the town to scare whoever lived there.
He knocked on the door and an old lady came out. He yelled “Give me some sweets, old lady.” The old lady said, “You have no manners. I should put a curse on you for twenty years.” Kalone was so scared that he ran down the steps, leaving all of his candy behind. Since then he never bullied anyone again. For all these twenty years, he has been a nice person. Remember, don’t be a bully.

Carnival Day by Beyonce Villafranco (6th Grader)
The most memorable event I experienced during the September Celebrations was Carnival Day on the 21st of September. I was in the carnival in Cayo and I had a blast. My group wore red, white and blue, our national colors. We were 20th in parade and the carnival was long. There were a lot of amazing floats. They were some that were so unique and exquisite.
When I got in the line, I started to dance. I dance and danced until my feet hurt. Everyone was so hype. When the parade was over, I couldn’t wait to do it again next year.

The Boogie Monster by Karran Bradley (7th Grader)
Josh was a 7 year old boy who was always scared. He was scared because a gigantic monster named Boogie would surprise him every year on the first day of October. Boogie did this by jumping out of Josh’s closet when he least expected it. However, this October 1st was different. That night josh was watched the clock on the wall in his room and steered at his closet as he waited to see a big monster with bogged feet, hairy body, and 12 eyes jump out. That night Josh waited and waited but Boogie never came.
The next day, when Josh woke up, he was sad that Boogie didn’t come to visit him. He looked under his bed, in his closet and everywhere else in his room but found nothing. Then he decided to check in the bathroom. Josh was right. He found Boogie taking a bubble bath in the tub. Josh rushed into his room, took one of the towels and ran back into the bathroom. Boogie was shocked as Josh pulled him out of the bath tub and dried him off. Then Josh pushed Boogie into his room before his mom saw him.
When boogie was dry, Josh pushed the monster into his closet and locked his closet from the outside. Boogie was yelling and banging for Josh to let him out but Josh just ignored him. When Josh got downstairs, he ate breakfast and went to school. For lunch he realized that he didn’t leave Boogie any water or food then he started to freak-out and he played sick. Josh was sent home and as soon as he got home, he gave Boogie water and some food in the kitchen. Josh was so happy that his mom wasn’t home so that he and Boogie could watch TV and eat and play but he realized that boogie seemed a little sad. Josh asked Boogie what was wrong and Boogie told him that the older they got the less they would see each other.
Josh, starting to feel sad, said with a broken voice, “Boogie I will miss all the games we used to play like scaring to snot out of kids on Halloween night and hide and seek in the dark. Josh began to cry as Boogie got up to leave. Josh hugged Boogie before he disappeared between the clothes in the closet.
A few years passed and Boogie had stopped visiting Josh. Another two years passed and Josh was twelve but still no visit from Boogie. Every Halloween Josh would look into his empty closet hoping that he would see a big loveable monster; alas there was nothing, not even a hair from Boogie’s back.
One morning he got up and opened his closet. There he was. The gigantic twelve eyed monster that Josh had been waiting for finally returned. Josh jumped on Boogie and cheerfully asked, “Where have you been you fluffy piece of monster?”
John is Scared by Catherine Guerra (7th Grader)
John was in his bedroom, lying on his bed, when suddenly he heard a bang on the door. He got frightened and jumped out of bed. Then he turned around to see the most unbelievable thing, a monster standing in his room. His parents weren’t at home because they had gone out to buy some food from a restaurant. Earlier he had watched a scary movie about a monster that was big and hairy and had three eyes. After the movie was done, he went into his bedroom because he was getting sleepy. That was when he saw the monster standing in his room.
John trembled as he looked at the monster. He wanted to shout, but he was too scared. He thought that the monster would eat him if he didn’t try to escape. So John ran for the door way. As he looked back he saw the monster coming toward him, and he almost fell. Then John heard the monster growl, “I won’t harm you.’’ Poof, the monster was gone. John wasn’t afraid anymore.
When John’s parents arrived at home, a little while after, he was already sleeping. They looked at John, unaware of what had just happened to their son. The only reason John went to sleep was because he was no longer scared of monsters.

September Celebration by Daniel Martinez (7th Grader)
My experience for the 21st of September Celebrations was epic. I went to see the parade. In the parade I saw a few friends. I also saw some of my old teachers, my cousins and my aunts. After the parade I went home and played computer games and watched some television. Then my friend, Aidan, came over and we played some football and some basketball for a couple hours until he had to leave.
Later in the night, when I was texting Aidan, he asked me what our home work was and I told him it was Math and Language Arts. A couple hours later I went to sleep and that was how I spent apart of my holiday.
